Raleigh Rescue Mission to Expand Services and Programs

September 28, 2017

Raleigh, N.C – In ministering to the homeless community in Wake County for over 50 years, Raleigh Rescue Mission has continually evolved in order to meet the ever-changing needs of those they serve.

Over the course of Fall 2017, the Mission will begin implementing a plan to increase the number of beds in their residential facility, located at 314 E. Hargett St. in Downtown Raleigh, by 30, and will offer these beds to homeless women and children who come to their door seeking food, shelter, safety and the opportunity for a new life. The Mission projects the expansion will be completed in mid-November, just in time to provide shelter during the harsh winter months that prove challenging and sometimes deadly for homeless neighbors.

As a part of this plan, Raleigh Rescue Mission will also provide additional staff to their Children’s Development Center, extending hours to provide before and after school support for children of resident working mothers. School aged children will also receive tutoring, mentoring and other services to assist them in meeting and exceeding their educational goals.

In addition, adult residents will now be able to enroll in additional certification programs at Wake Technical Community College, such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy, HVAC and more, which will significantly improve job placement in higher paying positions.

RRM will significantly increase our client job placement with the addition of transportation services. This will ensure our clients are able to arrive safely and on time to jobs and appointments.

Jim Wiley, Board Chair of the Raleigh Rescue Mission states: “The Board could not be more excited about the Mission’s trajectory and plans for increased impact as we strive to end homelessness, one person at a time.”
