Join us in Training for the City of Oaks Half Marathon

August 6, 2019

RUN VOLUNTEER DONATE

If you’re in downtown Raleigh early on most weekday mornings, you just may see a group of runners and walkers from Raleigh Rescue Mission pounding the pavement as they train for the upcoming City of Oaks half-marathon on Nov 3rd.

We’ve partnered with a Christian non-profit, Up and Running Again (https://upandrunningagain.org) and a locally owned running store, Fleet Feet, to provide training expertise, encouragement and support to our participants. Together, our clients, staff and volunteers are running or walking to stay healthy, improve their lives, and reach a goal.

Clients who participate receive 13 weeks of marathon training, complimentary running shoes, paid entry fee for the City of Oaks race, and a Carb Load Awards Banquet the day before the race.

It’s not too late to join us! Consider these:

  • Sponsor a client or staff member, contributing $$ to the Mission for each mile completed (or set your own goal for the sponsorship). Sign up below to get more details.
  • Be an encourager, both during the training and on the day of the race. Help at water stations during the training.
  • Run or walk with us! We start in front of the Mission at 5:30 am and 7:30 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 4 pm on Sundays.
  • Donate to Raleigh Rescue Mission so we can provide nutritious meals (fuel for training), workout gear for high impact activity, staff to provide childcare while parents train, and the list goes on and on.
