Carla first discovered Raleigh Rescue Mission when she and her husband Greg moved to Wake County in 2006. Inspired by the work of the Mission, Carla often made donations and became a vocal advocate of their work. As a high school teacher, she organized collection drives for her students and colleagues and educated others about the struggles of housing insecurity and homelessness.

Over the past few years of writing curriculum focused on racial, educational, and economic equity, Carla felt God was calling her to pursue a second career in non-profit work after retirement from education. She was excited to learn that Raleigh Rescue Mission had an opening for a volunteer engagement coordinator and knew her previous experience with teaching would serve her well in this role. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve the clients and staff at the Mission and encourage others to take action in making their community a better place.

In her free time Carla loves training for and running marathons, weightlifting, reading, being outdoors, and spending time with family.
