Physician Assistant/Family Nurse Practitioner - Part time, 10hrs/wk

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of advanced clinical duties involved in the assessment and treatment of residents and pediatric patients.

Director, RMM Medical Clinics

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Resident services:

  • Delegates resident appointment scheduling to the case manager in regards to appropriate external medical personnel.
  • Ensures complete and accurate documentation to present to the Medical Director for signature.
  • Provides counseling for residents in order to assess their health progress, identifies reoccurring problem areas; establishes treatment plans to solve specific problem areas
  • Communicates vital resident information to the appropriate staff as necessary while respecting resident confidentiality

Pediatrics:

  • Conducts initial and ongoing individualized patient assessments, prioritizing the data collection based on the infant, toddler, preschool, school age, or adolescent patient’s immediate condition or needs within specific timeframes.
  • Provides individualized patient/family education appropriate for each pediatric patient. Makes and provides appropriate referrals.
  • Accurately documents assessment findings, behavioral/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention as well as physical responses and progress towards problem resolution.
  • Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the needs of the pediatric patient.
  • Implements nursing actions including principles of safe practice and infection control in conjunction with Raleigh Rescue Mission policy and procedure and OSHA guidelines.
  • Delegates scheduling of primary care and acute care appointments to the Medical Assistant and coordinates care with the appropriate client representative or advocate at either the Raleigh Rescue Mission, The Salvation Army, The Healing Place, Urban Ministries.
  • Determines the need for RRM internal referrals to the Child Psychologist, Mental Health Counselor, Orthopedic Surgeon and implements accordingly.
  • Refers all pediatric (0-5yo) patients to the case manager for a needs assessment and community need- based referrals.

Job Skills & Requirements:

  • MS or MSN required; graduate of an accredited physician assistant or family nurse practitioner program
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid state Physician Assistant license or certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a physician assistant or family nurse practitioner required; one year of pediatric experience preferred
  • Knowledge of advanced principles, procedures, methods and techniques of medical diagnosis and care
  • Ability to respond rapidly and effectively, manages self, patient and other employees during any emergency situations.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and organizational abilities
  • Maintain current competency in pediatric nursing. Attend fifty hours of continuing education every two years.
