Freezing temperatures this week have caused Raleigh Rescue Mission to put into effect the White Flag Program, a Wake County initiative to house as many people as possible during extreme inclement weather. When temperatures drop below freezing, Raleigh Rescue Mission hangs a white flag outside our building indicating that it is a White Flag night and that we will house extra women and children in our Emergency Overnight Services. The cold weather has also brought an increase in demand for winter wear items such as blankets, hats, gloves, scarves and coats. We have been handing out about twice as many winter items as usual due to the cold weather and expect to give out hundreds of items by week's end. Raleigh Rescue Mission still needs donations of adult blankets, gloves, scarves and coats. To help meet the needs of our homeless neighbors this winter by providing them safe shelter, warm meals and more, click here.
