Accepted Donations

We appreciate the generosity of our donors who provide many of the necessities we use each day. Please note that we ask that all items are clean, safe and in working condition.  New and used items are both accepted, unless otherwise indicated. For information about items immediately needed to serve residents of Raleigh Rescue Mission, please visit our Urgent and Ongoing Needs list and drop off items from this list at 314 E. Raleigh Rescue Mission Store and Donation Center

The items listed below will be distributed to our residents or sold in the Raleigh Rescue Mission Store. Proceeds from items sold in our store will be used to fund programs and operations at Raleigh Rescue Mission. Items from the list below should be dropped off at Raleigh Rescue Mission Store and Donation Center, 4700 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC.

Accepted Items

Clothing: Men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and shoes-Included infants and toddlers. Clothes should be bagged or boxed and in good condition. No used undergarments or socks.
Baby Items: Cribs, changing tables, new changing table pads (in plastic wrapper), new crib bedding/bumpers, diaper bags, and new baby toys (No car seats)
Personal Items: Jewelry, eyeglasses, sunglasses, watches (in working condition)
Household Items: New mattresses in plastic. new bedding in packaging, pictures/picture frames, mirrors (Framed only), collectible items, dishes/glasses/pots and pans, table lamps/floor lamps, wood or faux wood blinds with hardware, new draperies and curtains
New Toys: Children’s toys and board games, DVDs, Video Games
Bicycles: Child and adult, new and used
Sporting Goods: Skateboards/scooters/rollerblades/skates, basketballs/baseballs/gloves/mits, etc.
Household Appliances: Electric items 10 years old or newer in good working condition with no repairs needed.  (No Gas Appliances Accepted), ranges (free standing), washers/dryers, refrigerators, microwave ovens (counter top)
Electronic Equipment (In good working condition): Audio – receivers, speakers and CD players, stereo systems, LED or plasma screen TVs, DVD players, video game consoles, complete computers that include tower and monitor- Pentium IV and higher, laptops, new printers/scanners/copy machines
Furniture: Good condition – no rips, tears, stains, broken parts or animal smells (No office furniture)
Books: New and used, no torn pages or marks (boxed please)
Electrical and Lighting: (New Only) Residential items only – No large donations of miscellaneous stock, working light fixtures/chandeliers (No fluorescent or commercial lights 220V), new household light bulbs, window AC units, new architectural items (columns, mantelpieces, etc.)
Cabinets/Countertops: Individual pieces or full cabinet sets – kitchen or bathroom cabinets must have all doors and drawers attached and be in stable condition, Countertops must be in good condition with NO chips or damage. Must be at least 4ft. long with no sink holes.
Doors: (New Only) Residential Only, pre-hung or door slabs without mold, exterior only without rot, cracks or missing panes, entryway units, screen and glass doors (no broken panes or screens)
Flooring: Carpets, area rugs and bound carpets no large than 6×8 in good to excellent condition with no visible tears, stains or animal smells
Hardware: Tools and automotive items, hand tools and power tools
Lumber: (New Only) Dimensional – 4 ft. lengths minimum of treated or non-treated, Sheet goods – full sheets only of particleboard, pressboard, plywood, paneling, drywall etc., New Trim and molding – 4 ft. lengths or longer
Plumbing: (New Only) Sinks – all types of kitchen and bathroom sinks (No chips or rust, No double sinks or irregular shape vanity tops without the cabinet), Bathtubs – fiberglass, New Shower enclosures – all components, Pipe/PVC/Metal/Copper – four ft. length and over Pipe supplies and fittings – any type, Miscellaneous plumbing hardware
Roofing Materials: New shingles, full bundles, New full rolls only of roofing materials, Vents (Floor, Ceiling, Return), Clean and in good condition
Windows: (New Only) Double pane only – no single pane, Double-hung, picture, bay – complete window units with casing or framing and all sashes, no rot, no cracked or foggy glass, Shutters (interior and exterior)
Wallpaper: Full rolls
Free standing wood stoves
Insulation – new only

Special note about donating cars: Please contact our partner, Wheels4Hope, if you have a car you would like to donate. They generously provide cars for our clients transitioning into job and housing. 

Items Not Accepted

To insure the health and safety of our clients, we cannot accept the following items:

Damaged, broken or inoperable items
Open or expired OTC medicine
Opened or partially used food items, contaminated or spoiled items, home canned food and unprocessed meat
Carseats, Crib Mattresses, used crib bedding/bumpers, used changing table pads
Used mattresses or box springs
Used bedding
Used toys
Stuffed Animals
VCRs/VHS Tapes, used video games
Mini Blinds
Cast Iron Tubs
Unframed glass or mirrors, broken glass or mirrors
Entertainment Centers
Console, tube/CRT type or projection TVs
Furniture with rips, tears, stains or broken pieces
Built-in appliances
Office Furniture
Pianos, organs
Items considered hazardous waste

Paint, paint thinners, stains, or other hazardous/toxic chemicals, Pesticides

Water Heaters
Used printers, copy machines, scanners
No commercial 220V light fixtures
Sliding glass doors
Scrap lumber or molding less than 4 ft. in length with nails or nail holes
Garage doors and/or door openers
Commercial electrical or plumbing stock
Gas appliances
Glass Shower Doors
Cabinets without doors or drawers, broken cabinets,or cabinets with water damage
